The Oh My God Road climbs (or descends, depending on your direction of travel) 1800 feet in a 4½-mile stretch on the side of Pewabic Mountain as it makes its way between Idaho Springs and Central City, Colorado.

This is Gold Country, as evidenced by the numerous holes (one of which is directly across the road from us) and tailings piles that dot this mountain. Indeed, in this view near the 8,900-foot level we are standing on the tailings pile, which you can see if you look straight down off the edge of the road, that came from the old mine in the photo.

The "V"-shaped scar across the valley is the Echo Mountain Ski Area. The high, snowy, rocky ridge to the right of it is 14,265-foot Mount Evans and its associated peaks. Far beneath us is the city of Idaho Springs; if you zoom in far enough you can see a little bit of Interstate 70 at the very bottom of the valley.
